NYACS Scholarship Foundation

The NYACS Scholarship Foundation awards the NYACS Emmy Seng Scholarship annually to a qualified student who is either an employee, or immediate relative of an employee, of a retail or supplier company that is a current member of the New York Association of Convenience Stores. Preference is given to applicants residing in New York State.

This $2,000 scholarship supports higher learning for a goal-oriented individual who best demonstrates academic achievement, community involvement, financial need, and qualities of spirit and success identified with the convenience store industry. Applications must be postmarked by May 31, 2022, for consideration.

Eligibility

• Applicant must be an employee, or an immediate family member of an employee, of a NYACS Retail or Associate Member Company.
• The company must have been a member of NYACS for a minimum of 3 months prior to the date of this notice.
• Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester, in an accredited two or four-year college, university, or technical school.
• Applicant must have completed at least one semester and be enrolled in a second semester of a two or four-year college, university, or technical school accredited program. All undergraduate students who meet these criteria are eligible.
• Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, based on a 4-point grading system.
• Also considered will be the individual's curriculum and student activities, their applicability to the convenience store industry, and the individual's stated accomplishments and goals.
• If selected, the applicant must agree to refund the scholarship award in full if, after six months from the date of payment, he or she is no longer enrolled in the college, university or technical school for any reason other than graduation.
• Previous recipients are ineligible.

NY (ATAP) Responsible Alcohol Sales
This optional course covers New York State law governing the sale of alcoholic beverages, specific products thou shalt not sell to minors, penalties for your store and your employees if a violation occurs, acceptable forms of ID, compliance enforcement, required signage, how to recognize and correctly handle scenarios where minors try to trick you into selling them alcohol, and why all this is serious business.

New York Responsible Tobacco Sales
Approved by the New York State Health Department, this training is also optional, but there is a strong incentive for retailers to provide it to your entire sales team. This series teaches employees the legal age limits in New York counties, how to check identification, and how to refuse sales using appropriate customer service skills.
